Notes From the Studio

3/28/2025
I almost started this with "Ah, March in the UP," until I realized that that's exactly what I said 2 weeks ago. It's true though, March is a "go home, you're drunk," month up here. It's the bag sale of spring, we get a little bit of everything: blizzards, 60s, gray skies, and tonight we're getting an ice storm (with thunder?) to wrap things up. But the robins have returned, so at least there's that.
Ink on Paper
I started working on building up some card inventory over the last couple weeks, which started with cutting paper (I really, really need a proper paper cutter) and then folding them on the press. The folding process consists of locking creasing rule into a form, putting that on the press, and then laying creasing matrix onto the platen. Creasing rule is basically a thin metal bar that pushes the paper into the groove of the matrix, creating a nice crease so the card can then be folded. Here's what that looks like:
I folded 360 cards, and then ran 7 different cards in a row (50 each) a few days later.

Other Rambles
Wind is "the experience of change." Loved this piece by Sarah Quirk. "...at its very core, wind is an act of reconciliation."
Also, the ever-brilliant Tim Kreider: "Stuff is what remains, the solid residue of the evaporated past." Read it here.
See you out there,
