Pesto is Just a Concept

Last fall, on my birthday, my friend Doug gave me a jar of homemade pesto. Time has blurred the details, but from what I remember he was talking to someone about swapping walnuts for pine nuts, and quipped "pesto is just a concept." We had a good laugh, because if pesto is just a concept, then "what else is a concept?"
So it was the perfect phrase to print over some experiments with rolling green ink. And yes, the pesto was delicious.
Ink on Paper
Aside from the pesto print, the big ink, er, paint project was covering the bare drywall in the studio with this electric green!

"Parsley sprig" is the color, though I've yet to see parsley this color and probably would be wary of eating it if I did. All the other walls in the studio are gray/brown sandstone and brick, so this adds a nice pop of much-needed color.
I also picked up a burly paper cutter. Paper cutting using the old Ingento trimmer took forever, especially cutting lots of small things like business cards. This will cut (see what I did there?) processing time down significantly!

Lastly, Taryn Okesson of Second Story Studio took this incredible picture during the "Hands-Off" protest, with my print making a delightful cameo!

Other Rambles
I got to be one of speakers at a student seminar for Outdoor Recreation graduates at NMU last Friday. Bob Jacquart, of Stormy Kromer fame, was the keynote. He and I have gotten to know each other a little over the last year, but this was the first time I heard his full story. It's quite the tale! He talked about how he thought he was lucky, that all these chance encounters that led to new opportunities were just the way the cards fell, but a friend pointed out that he wasn't lucky, he was "plucky." Showing up, contributing, doing the work, asking questions, solving problems, staying curious - these all lead to those "chance" encounters becoming more routine.
Anyway, that's all for now. See you out there!
